Thomas Miller Claims Management (TMCM) enjoyed a successful night at the Commercial Insurance Awards on 9th March, carrying off the award for “Best Innovative Product” for its Bluemed marine medical package.

The judges recognised the unique advantages of Bluemed’s active case management and problem-solving approach over the reactive, “off the shelf” services provided by most medical assistance and cost control providers.

TMCM Director and Bluemed lead Stephen Hunt, who accepted the award on behalf of TMCM and its partners, emphasised the fundamental difference between Bluemed and the competition:

“Bluemed is targeted specifically at ship operators, large yacht owners and managers, marine underwriters, and medical expense insurers. It combines expert medical advice from marine and offshore doctors based in the UK, with TMCM’s “hands on” medical case management, which understands the maritime context and is constantly looking two or three steps ahead to repatriation, rehabilitation and contract entitlements in the home country. This puts in levels of risk mitigation and cost control, in real time, which simply aren’t there with the traditional medical assistance model. Overseas medical costs are a hot topic in the marine business at present, and the award shows how receptive the industry is to an alternative approach.”

TMCM was joined at the awards ceremony, held at the Millennium Hotel in Grosvenor Square, by claims and underwriting clients in the commercial market. Flying the flag along with Stephen were Roderick McDonald, who heads the telemedicine part of Bluemed in Aberdeen; and TM Law’s Howard Quinlivan, who specialises in marine accident response and advising the yacht sector.
